<p dir="ltr">We developed an agrivoltaic model in CLM5 (CLM5-AgPV) to simulate agrivoltaics and its effects on water-energy-carbon interaction processes (Fig. 1). Specifically, we added four major functions related to agrivoltaics: (a) extend the existing sub-grid heterogeneity to include agrivoltaic patches, (b) consider rainfall redistribution caused by solar panel when calculating water balance, (c) adjust the parameterization of surface roughness to improve the turbulent exchange of water vapor and heat between the surface and the atmosphere, and (d) integrate the energy budget of solar panels into the surface energy budget.</p>
