Odds Off Investigating Betting Culture in Sports. STS 315 Project

Gambling has been around for a very long time, people who have gambled on sports have a 52.4% chance of winning on average. Betting has a psychological effect that can lead to financial ruin, addiction, and even family distress. This is also similar to even using drugs or alcohol. We need to take action and get the Federal, State and Local governments to drastically limit online betting to avoid normalizing risky behavior. Stricter regulations not just for players but also for the regular sports enthusiast, by having this it will prevent more and more cases of gambling addictions. Betting has become more and more accessible because of COVID-19. After COVID-19, multiple applications pertaining to not just sports betting has increased dramatically. This has led to an increase in bankruptcy, families and carers being ruined because of online sports betting. Should professional sports leagues embrace sports betting partnerships, or does it compromise the integrity of the game?
