NFAIS Program: Creating and Harnessing the New Era of Data Sharing - On The State of Open Date Report
Abstract (link to program below):
Earlier this year, figshare worked
alongside Springer Nature and Digital Science to survey researchers around
their attitudes and experiences in working with open research data. Garnering
over 2,000 responses, the survey reveals researchers are shaping the conversation
around open research and open data, namely sharing and using open data far more
than previously thought. While there are still some questions that need
answering, mainly around ethics of data sharing, licensing, and costs to make
open access possible, the survey shows the future is promising. This
presentation will cover key findings of The State of Open Data Report and identify
the different hurdles such as infrastructure, culture change, and incentives
for researchers.
