Libraries, librarianship and cross-lamination: notes on education and career preparation for libraries

<p dir="ltr">This presentation was the keynote at the Charleston Conference. It discusses the education and career preparation of libraries. It discusses the current library service environment, the broad contours of current library education, and notes some gaps and challenges. It concludes with three recommended areas for attention by the organizations which represent library and library education interests. Given the rapidly evolving social and political environment it suggests that libraries should find collective ways of influencing and assisting in the preparation of many of those who come to work in libraries. </p>
