This report examines how UK higher education institutions are implementing and evolving their use of lecture recording technology, based on surveys conducted in 2017 and 2024 by the Heads of eLearning Forum (HeLF). The findings show significant progress in adoption, with institutions moving from basic implementation to more sophisticated approaches including assessment integration, automated captioning, and varied retention policies. Beyond traditional lecture capture, institutions are exploring new pedagogical approaches and technological capabilities, though this transformation remains uneven across the sector with some leading while others are still developing their capabilities.
