A discussion of full scale performance results obtained from two 2,400 DWT coastal container vessels, Sakura (Flap Rudder) & Shigenobu (Gate Rudder) via his presentation Joint Sea Trial of Ships with Gate Rudder and Conventional Rudder. The recent full-scale trial results of Shigenobu have confirmed the superior performance of the GATE RUDDER system in fuel consumption, manoeuvring and sea keeping capability compared with her sister vessel, Sakura.
