Developing a Statewide Early Warning System

This presentation will explore Wisconsin’s work using data from the state longitudinal data system to develop early warning models of dropout and late graduation for students currently in middle
school. Early work has shown that the system is able to accurately identify more than 60 percent
of such students in the state by the end of seventh grade. This system is built entirely using open source analytics tools and data common to all states. This presentation will address the current status of this work, challenges in building the system, plans for communicating the results to school districts statewide, and future improvements and extensions of the system.
