Barcoding and new register of Amphiroa foliacea in Malpelo Island, Colombia

Although the algae belong to the genus Amphiroa are of great ecological importance and of wide distribution throughout Pacific, the specie A. Foliacea has not been formally informed to Colombia. In this data paper, molecular approaches based on the amplification of the COI gene were performed to identify the four samples belong to geniculate coralline red algae that were collected from Malpelo Island. The four sequences were aligned with the sequences from all families of Corallinophycidae for the COI region and a Maximum likelihood analysis indicated that sequences collected from Malpelo Island were consistent with Amphiroa foliacea.
