<b>Opinion: </b>Can Straight, White, and Male Be a Disadvantage?

<p dir="ltr">Discussions about privilege often assume that being straight, white, and male is inherently advantageous. While systemic inequalities exist for marginalised groups, privilege is not always absolute. White men, for example, face higher suicide rates, harsher legal sentences, and challenges in family courts.</p><p dir="ltr">Diversity initiatives aim to correct historical injustices, but legal cases show they can sometimes disadvantage white men. Beyond policy, cultural narratives can discourage open discussions about discrimination in unexpected directions. If fairness is the goal, it should apply universally—ensuring equality is not about shifting advantages but about creating a level playing field for all.</p><p><br></p>
