The impact of astronomy on Maunakea for me as a Hawaiʻi State Department of Hawaiian Home Lands beneficiary, is that it harms my psyche and my na‘au as a kane (Hawaiian man) to know that I am both not able to be responsible to my ancestral duties including the protection of the kapu of Maunakea, as well as not able to enjoy the benefits of my standing as a beneficiary of the Hawaiian Home Lands Trust. These actions are a reminder that we Hawaiians are invisible to the State of Hawai‘i and apparently to astronomers with regards to our rights and responsibilities.
