The French Revolution is often associated with the uprising of the oppressed common people against the tyranny of absolute monarchy. However, this study explores a lesser-examined perspective: the role of the aristocracy in catalyzing the revolution. This historiographical research note critically assesses the extent to which the French aristocrats acted as instigators of revolutionary change through their conflicts with the monarchy, manipulation of public sentiment, and their pressure for the convening of Les États Généraux.
