As opposed to autosomes, the human sex chromosomes do not recombine across their entire length. However, there are two small regions on the X and Y chromosomes called pseudoautosomal regions (PARs) that recombine during male meiosis. Because pairing can only occur in the PARs, we expect large differences in diversity between the PAR and non-PAR regions. In this research we aim to use the difference in diversity between the regions to identify the location of the boundary between recombining and non-recombining regions on the human X chromosome.
