A qualitative study using primary survey data with undergraduate HE students and their academic tutors at a university in the NW of England. The aim was to develop a more nuanced understanding of student engagement beyond the data generated by the university systems to influence a pastoral system personalized to our student demographic. The research collected detailed demographic data so we could better understand who our students are and the lived reality of their lives post Covid-19. The survey questions were focused on staff and student understandings of 'engagement' with their studies, the forms 'engagement' takes and whether there is a difference between students' & staff understandings of 'engagement'.
