Research and development for the NevWx edge-to-edge climate services system
The CSSI: Elements: Innovating for Edge-to-Edge Climate Services project aims to facilitate access by everyone to environmental data, focusing on democratizing portions of an existing regional earthquake and wildfire science network in Nevada. Research and development activities in year 2 of the project have encompassed: refined design of the network integration plan for deployment of sensor arrays and network equipment in the Lake Tahoe Basin mountainous areas; extension of an operational lab-based pilot edge-to-edge system to which the general public can contribute by adding new temperature and soil moisture sensors; design and implementation of a project’s web portal; completion of a user study for acquiring stakeholders’ feedback, and dissemination of project goals, scope, and results through conference papers, journal articles, and workshop presentations.
