Powering Open Academic Infrastructure with Figshare
Figshare has been helping researchers, publishers, institutions and funders make research more open since 2011 by providing a simple, user friendly interface to share and discover data.
Figshare for publishers integrates with the publishing workflow making it easy for researchers to provide the underlying data to support their findings without restrictions on file type or size. The integration options range from fully automated via the Figshare API, editor led via FTP or author led via manual deposit.
Submission
Figshare integrates with article submission systems so data can be provided at the point of uploading a paper or preprint.
Figshare infrastructure can support files up to 5TB
Peer Review
Figshare provides private links to research data removing author names to facilitate double blind peer review.
Acceptance
Figshare has a robust curation workflow that allows editors & administrators to accept, reject and comment on submissions.
Publication
When papers go live the data is then automatically made available with bidirectional links from the paper to the data on figshare.
All data is given a DOI and is previewed in the browser removing the need to download.
The data can be embedded in the publisher page via a figshare widget, enhancing the author experience by reading data inline and in context.
All data is collated into a portal which can be hosted on a custom domain of the publishers choosing eg. data.publisher.com
