INTRODUCING CI-PIVOT: A NOVEL APPROACH TO EXPANDING THE CI PROFESSIONAL ECOSYSTEM
Our project, CI PIVOT, aims to augment the CI Professional workforce by recruiting and training individuals with domain science expertise and fully integrating them into the (centralized) advanced CI research enterprise as cyberinfrastructure facilitators. Historically, CI facilitator's efforts have been diffuse (from top 10 numerical model areas to veterinary medicine); however, CI PIVOT aims to provide resources to focus on CIP development in underserved areas of research or areas in need of advanced capabilities that go beyond campus-based computing. CI PIVOT will specifically target social, behavioral, and economic sciences, geosciences, and engineering for the proposed facilitator positions. Further, CI PIVOT is an advanced cyberinfrastructure collaboratory where PIVOT professionals learn, engage, and co-create with each other and domain science researchers to further the advancement of science. Through CI PIVOT’s innovative workforce development activities, deep integration with the National Science Foundation's advanced CI ecosystem, and forward-looking community contributions, the project will elevate the role of CI Professionals locally, regionally, and nationally and significantly contribute towards the advancement of science.
