Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent challenges in social interaction, communication, and restricted or repetitive behaviors. Children and adolescents with ASD often experience a range of psychiatric symptoms and comorbidities, which can significantly impact their overall well-being and functional outcomes. While the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among individuals with ASD is well documented, limited research has focused on the specific risk factors and outcomes associated with psychiatric hospitalization in this population. Understanding the burden of psychiatric illnesses leading to hospitalization in pediatric patients with ASD is crucial for informing clinical practice, resource allocation, and interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes. This study aimed to assess the risk of psychiatric illnesses leading to hospitalization in pediatric patients with ASD and to examine their impact on hospitalization outcomes. The findings of this study have the potential to inform clinical practice guidelines, healthcare policies, and interventions aimed at improving the quality of care and outcomes for pediatric patients with ASD and psychiatric comorbidities.
