Research presents unique challenges in IT, making its support
challenging. Supporting researchers in meeting these challenges has led
to the creation of specialist units at Swiss research organisations to
provide Research IT support,
allowing researchers to concentrate on their core tasks and
accelerating time to results.
Through the EnhanceR project, these units
are federated into a national cooperative eScience and Research IT
support community to provide support, transfer knowledge
and build skills and capacities in the Swiss research academic sector.
EnhanceR is the follow-up to the successful eSCT project, which assisted
a wide number of researchers across Switzerland through the delivery of
over 50 support projects. These ranged from
the development of a scalable neuroscience imaging analysis pipeline,
to the benchmarking of sequencing alignment tools, to the creation of a
resource-sharing platform across institutes that now has over 4,000
users.
In this poster, we outline the services
that EnhanceR offers researchers, as well as detailing two examples of
previous support projects. In the first example, we detail the
development of a scalable imaging analysis pipeline that directly aided
researchers at the Laboratory of Neural Circuit Dynamics
at the Brain institute at the University of Zurich. In the second, we
present the development of a technology stack to run the same workflow
in different Swiss HPC clusters, aimed at projects with sensitive and
confidential data where code has to move to the
data.
