In June 2017, as part of the School of Architecture and Built Environment’s collaboration with Tangentyere Council, we began working on significant alterations to the Youth Centre at 3 Brown Street in Alice Springs. The alterations were to increase the Centre’s capacity to provide safe and culturally appropriate spaces for a range of activities, and a sense of address that 5-17 year olds would feel comfortable visiting and spending some time in with others. In consultation with the Youth Centre manages and a range of different users, a final design was prepared, approved and exhibited in Alice Springs (June 2017) and Newcastle (July 2018).
