The definition of the self in Islamic thought has taken several different definitions, often varying significantly. There is a vast difference between philosophers, theologians, and prominent Sufis, as each of them has adopted a definition of the human self. Some schools of thought have differentiated between the self and the spirit. Additionally, Sufism and its major scholars have a specific definition of the self, influenced by their Sufi spiritual doctrine, which makes the self the center of their perceptions and the foundation of their epistemological theories. From this, we can pose the following question: What is the meaning of the self-according to the Sufis?
