This report summary presents how community organisations in Bogotá (Colombia) and Lima (Peru) promote mental health and wellbeing among young people, particularly those from disadvantaged urban areas. It describes what makes these organisations effective in promoting mental health and wellbeing through arts, sports, and other group activities.

This research involved visiting organisations, observing their activities, and conducting interviews with young participants, their families, staff members, and some community members.

This study is part of a broader research project called OLA (Building resilience and resources to reduce depression and anxiety in young people from urban neighbourhoods in Latin America). OLA is a research project that investigated the mental health of young people (aged 15–16 and 20– 24) living in disadvantaged urban areas of Bogotá (Colombia), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Lima (Peru).
