My father was 15 years of age in 1942. He was in the Home Guard. He and his friend, who worked on Stowe Farm in North Cornwall, were told to guard an aircraft which had crashed in a field overnight on the farm they worked on.

The aircraft was, I believe, a British Blenham bomber. Both of the crew were killed.

My father said the reason they had to guard the aeroplane was to stop looters taking away parts. They both had shoot guns and stayed until someone from the Army arrived to take charge.
