Uncemented sand under triaxial compression

X-ray Computed Tomography 3D image of a cylindrical dry sand sample tested with triaxial compression: the Digital Volume Correlation shows that, in the loading step 07-08 (16% - 19% of axial strain), a network of shear bands develops in the middle of the sample with a preferred conjugated direction.
