Ethnic Identification and Perceptions of Societal hurdles among University students of migrant Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities in England, A Qualitative study
Despite a diverse community, the British population seems to be divided along ethnic lines. The majority of South-Asian immigrant communities feel ‘a very strong’ sense of belonging to Britain. Regardless of their sense of belonging, 13% of the Bangladeshi and Pakistani communities feel discriminated against within British society. However, contrary to popular scholarly interest, such discriminations are rarely explicit and violent. Hence, this dissertation explores these implicit experiences of discrimination and isolation. Focussing on the experiences of University students, this study investigates how Pakistani and Bangladeshi students identify themselves concerning British society, their perceptions of societal hurdles and how they perceive the role of authoritative figures in all this.
