Journey into Darkness

Journey into Darkness was a piano recital performed on 6 October 2021 at the Oasis Function Centre, Flinders University, South Australia. The concert program included Douglas Lilburn's Sonata for Piano in F# minor (1939) Lachlan Skipworth's Shingetsu (2020) and Stuart Greenbaum's Piano Sonata no. 2 - Journey into Darkness.

This performance was the premiere of Greenbaum's complete work. The first two movements of the three movement sonata (Remote Connection and Satellite Mapping) were conceived separately as stand alone pieces and premiered by different pianists (Liam Wooding and Amir Farid) some years apart. In 2021 Greenbaum brought these two works together as the first and second movements for a piano sonata, adding a new third movement to complete the work.

It is likely this was the first performance of Lilburn's Sonata for Piano in F# minor in Australia and Skipworth's Shingetsu in South Australia.
