Animations showing the evolution of a Dark Matter spike around an intermediate mass black hole (IMBH, m1), under the influence of an inspiraling stellar mass object (m2). Each animation shows results for a different mass of the central IMBH.

The blue curve shows the density profile of all DM particles in the spike, while the red curve shows only those particles moving more slowly that the local circular speed (vcirc) at each radius. The vertical dashed line and upper panel indicate the orbital separation of the inspiraling object.
