Study on Pacific Islands Region Health Digitisation 2019.pdf
With a comprehensive draft report in 2018 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on a
Regional Action Agenda for Harnessing eHealth for the Improved Delivery of Health
Services in the Western Pacific the time is ripe for a significant population based
comprehensive remote health monitoring trial for the states of the Pacific Islands. Region
(PIR). A private-public partnership is one strong collaboration model that could be
adopted to undertake trials across the PIR. As a precursor to a full clinical trial the
proposed plan of this report is addressing from one perspective a key area of upcoming
public health concern in the PIR that being of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) and is
becoming a significant strain on the health budgets of many states in the region. Hence
a discussion on the use of eHealth tools in addressing this endemic is relevant now
however embarking on any large eHealth which will be costly, a carefully managed clinical
trial across the various Pacific Islands is likely to be a more viable option to isolate those
areas where high priority should be placed for everyday consumer eHealth tools.
Therefore, the private -public partnership for the clinical trial must be given serious
consideration.
