Software Papers: improving the reusability and sustainability of scientific software

In this position paper submitted to the First Workshop on Sustainable Software for Science: Practice and Experiences, we describe the Journal of Open Research Software, a software metajournal which features peer reviewed software papers describing research software with high reuse potential. We posit that the use of software papers improves the sustainability of scientific software by making them discoverable and citable, as well as asking them questions about the metadata required to use and reuse the software easily.
