Download fileImpact Case Study – A New Academic Genre & What it Says About Researchers
In this poster I explore the characteristics of Impact Case Studies as a genre to see how academics present themselves as ‘academic subjects’ in the context of the Impact Agenda. I understand genre as one of the possible means of presenting oneself through discourse (Amossy, 2010). I reverse the traditional order of reasoning in genre analysis – from function of the text to its characteristics (Swales, 1990, p. 58) and ask instead ‘what do the features of the text tell us about its functions’.
In essence, I am trying to see what image of scientists this new genre of academic writing conveys.
