Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) refers to an investment made by an individual or companybased in one country into business interests located in another country, typically through theacquisition of a lasting interest in a foreign enterprise and active control of the businessoperation. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) defines FDI as "a category of cross-borderinvestment made by a resident in one economy with the objective of obtaining a lastinginterest in an enterprise resident in another economy"
