Data Archive: The C. elegans Glutamate Transporters GLT-4 and GLT-5 Regulate Protein Expression, Behavior, and Lifespan
This study may be of interest to neuroscience and aging researchers, especially those focused on glutamate transporters. It investigates how knockout mutations in two glutamate transporter genes influence behavior, protein expression, and lifespan in C. elegans. The findings reveal opposing effects on lifespan: one deletion significantly extends it, while the other shortens it. These mutations also correlate to opposite changes in proteins associated with metabolism and protein synthesis, mirroring the lifespan results. By linking glutamate transporter function to key biological processes, this study advances understanding of glutamate regulation and highlights C. elegans as a model for studying the interplay between glutamate homeostasis and aging.
