Deep-blue and narrowband emitting carbon dots, with a peak at 403 nm, a FWHM of 35 nm, and a PLQY of 61% in ethanol, are synthesized from bio-derivable phloroglucinol. The planar carbon dots comprise distinct graphene segments as the fluorophore within a polyether-crosslink network. Their application capacity is demonstrated by implementing as the gain medium in a random lasing device.
