A new iteration of my Major Performance Work, "To Train a Fart in the Desert" 2023 - 2024 was produced for this curated art gallery exhibition. The project created an alternative perspective on the legacy of the Euro-Western in Spain and its constructed landscapes (frontiers). Working through a performance art methodology it produced a dynamic and adaptive space, where participants could engage with real and imagined terrains with sound and body through the experimental brass instruments. This opened up new perspectives in thinking about landscape and our individual and collective ways of interpreting terrain.

Research Statement

"To Train a Fart in the Desert" was a major international creative work that took place in numerous iterations across Spain between 2023 - 2024. For this curated exhibition I produced a new iteration of the work. The project engaged in the fields of performance art, experimental sound, cinema and themes around landscape. Through a performance art-based methodology the work responded to the Euro-Westerns shot in Spain in the 60s and the scores that Italian composer Ennio Morricone wrote to accompany them. The project created an alternative perspective on the legacy of the Euro-Western in Spain and its constructed landscapes (frontiers). Working through a performance art methodology it produced a dynamic and adaptive space, where participants could engage with real and imagined terrains with sound and body through the experimental brass instruments and moving image. This opened up new perspectives in thinking about landscape and our individual and collective ways of interpreting terrain. The project had a major impact across Spain and Europe. The inclusion in Flucktpunkt 2024 is evidence of the success of the project and the continuing interest that it garnered.
