Three µg of total extracellular proteins were separated by SDS-PAGE on 12% acrylamide gels containing either A) Micrococcus or B) S. aureus as a substrate. “Chrom” denotes chromosomal genotype for UAMS-1 (WT), Δatl mutant KB5000 (Δatl), ΔatlAM mutant KB5002 (Δam), or ΔatlGL mutant KB5001 (Δgl). “Vector” indicates whether the strain carried vector control pJB128 (V), atlAM complement plasmid pJB111 (am), or atlGL complement plasmid pJB135(gl). Black arrows denote GL and AM-specific bands in WT for panels A and B, respectively. Empty arrow indicates the two bands in WT containing both AM and GL in both A) and B).
