(Column 1) CV versus the firing rate of background (blue dots) and foreground (red crosses) neurons. Consistent with activation of a memory state, the neurons fall into two clusters, one corresponding to the foreground and the other to the background.
(Column 2) Distribution of CVs for foreground (filled red bars) and background (solid line). The mean of both distributions is about 0.8, reflecting the fact that the neurons are firing irregularly.
(Column 3) Distribution of firing rates for foreground (filled red bars) and background (solid line).
