RichterCharacterization of innate immune cell populations by flow cytometric analyses in the lungs (A-E) and in the bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) (F-I). Mice were infected with 10 PFU of PR8 or MAp2009, lungs and BAL were harvested at the indicated time points, and cells were analyzed by flow cytometry. Neutrophils were identified as CD11cloF4/80-CD11bhiGr-1+, NK cells as CD3-NK1.1+, DCs as CD11chiCD11bhiGr-1hi, and macrophages as F4/80+CD11cloCD11bhiGr-1-. In the lungs, inflammatory macrophages were distinguished from alveolar macrophages by the high expression of CD11b. Data were analysed by an unpaired Mann-Whitney test (*P< 0.05, **P< 0.01) and represent the mean of at least 5 animals in experiments performed in triplicate.
