Changes in muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA, panel A), renal blood velocity (pane lB), and renal vascular resistance (RVR, panel C) during mental stress between groups according to the combination of MSNA and RVR responder-types. Participants were grouped as (1) typically negative responders if the MSNA and RVR responses to mental stress were consistently below (i.e.,negative) or within (non-responders) baseline variability, or non-responsive in one variable and negative in the other;(2) mixed responders if the response in one variable was positive and the other was negative; and (3) typically positive responders if the responses were consistently positive or non-responsive in one variable and positive in the other. Data was analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by an LSD post-hoc test.
