Polarization ellipse

A polarization ellipse, from this figure the Stokes parameters are defined. A is the amplitude of the wave, β the angle relating the two principal
axes of the ellipse, φ0 the polarization angle and z is the direction of propagation.
When β = 0, ± π
2 the wave is linearly polarized (V = 0).
