Platelet adhesion to arterial cross-sections.

Cross-sections of the arterial grafts were prepared as described in the Materials and Methods (top left panel) and perfused with heparinized blood. Following the perfusion, the cross-sections were fixated and processed for scanning electron microscopic imaging. Isolated adhered platelets are seen in the intima and media layers, whereas larger aggregates are formed in the adventitia.
