Maruyama Park radio tower, Kyoto

These images show the 'radio tower' (public radio-listening facility) in Maruyama Park, Kyoto.
It was erected in 1932 and is described in the NHK Yearbook as follows:


高 11.5 尺、鉄筋混凝土上部花崗岩、角燈籠型
Height 11.5 shaku (3.5m), reinforced concrete, upper part granite, square tōrō (shrine lantern) style


The photograph attached to its side shows park user gathered around the radio tower; they may have been listening to live commentary of baseball matches, which were very popular at the time. NHK, the national broadcaster, also set up a baseball scoreboard near the radio tower during the popular summer Kōshien tournament.
