Daily coverage from three Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometers

Typical sea surface temperature coverage of 1 day from three Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometers (AVHRRs). The coloured areas correspond to the SSTs obtained with the sun below the horizon. The grey areas show the SST data obtained with the sun above the horizon, and therefore “day-time” retrievals. Gaps indicate pervasive cloud cover preventing SST estimation.
