Research Statement
Collisions was a creative laboratory and performance outcome that investigated the performance possibilities of orchestral musicians and theatre performers with and without disabilities, using improvisation, movement, and pre-existing scores to create original duets and ensemble works.
Collisions was the first stage in an innovative and bold creative partnership between two companies coming from vastly different creative traditions and rehearsal processes. It created the collaborative framework for further collaborations between the two organisations, as well as a public performance of a one-time-only, sold-out work.
Collisions was presented in association with the Melbourne International Arts Festival, a prestige event in the the Australian arts calendar. Clive O'Connell, music critic from the Age described it as "rich as a Rembrandt night-scene... a tableau of peace and shared affection to flood your eyes and break your heart... You were left at the end of the hour with memories of delight, sadness and an overall sense of longing." (17/10/2005)
