Additional file 8: Figure S8. X-ray elemental maps and BSE image acquired by SEM/EDS of a portion of cross section S7 from Landscape with Snow, i.e. ground preparation and paint, revealing that the latter consists of a bromine-containing pigment, most likely eosin red, precipitated onto an aluminum-based substrate, mixed with lead white and an abundance of minute ultramarine blue particles.
