The Women's One Hundred procession invited residents and visitors to the city to walk and sing Women's Rights protest songs on Lincoln's High Street and then assemble at Speaker's Corner - the site of the City's historic Suffragette Rally of 1908.The procession was followed by Raising Our Hands, a site-specific community performance, created by local women to be performed at Speaker's Corner and mark the national centenary. The piece was devised through a series of workshops led by theatre maker and performer, Rachel Baynton, Co-Artistic Director of Proto-type Theater. These events were the final celebrations in a series of workshops and public talks which formed the year-long One Hundred Project. Supported by Lincoln Performing Arts Centre and Arts Council England, the project was designed to build confidence, and empower women, as well as highlighting current issues in equality.Highlights of the project included Suffragette-inspired art workshops, MP Karen Lee speaking on her experience of working in a male dominated profession ,alongside Senior Lecturer in Engineering Rebecca Margetts, and public speaking and self-defence for women classes. The One Hundred Project was been led and co-ordinated by Creative Producer, Phoebe Wall-Palmer.CREDITS:RAISING OUR HANDSA Free Public Performance to Mark 100 Years of Votes for Women – Created for the People of LincolnDevised and Performed by:Gemma BakerGaynor BrownSarah HughesSophie LavenderGeorgia PreeceWritten and directed by Rachel Baynton Music by Ed Wellman and the University of Lincoln ChoirThe procession and performance took place on Saturday 15th December 2018.
