Religion Centres in Catalonia 2020-22 (by municipalities)
The Religious Map of Catalonia collects, with data from 2020 to 2022, the figures at the municipal and regional level on the places where worship is usually held relating to the different religious denominations established in the country. The study counts a total of 7,291 centres throughout Catalonia, mainly corresponding to 14 religious denominations.
The initiative began in 2001, when the then Secretariat for Relations with Religious Confessions of the Generalitat de Catalunya (now the General Directorate of Religious Affairs) commissioned the research group ISOR -Research in the Sociology of Religion, of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, to design a map of religious minorities. Since then, several updates have been carried out to obtain information on all the places of worship that are active in Catalonia. The data referring to the Catholic Church are provided by the dioceses based in Catalonia. In 2022, the last update of the Religious Map of Catalonia was carried out, which was carried out by the Pere Tarrés Foundation.
The information on the Religious Map is specified in a study that incorporates, on the one hand, quantitative information with the collection of specific data on each religious centre established in Catalonia, and, on the other, qualitative information collected from interviews with representatives of religious denominations, centres of worship, organisations and religious entities. All this with the aim of getting to know in depth the religious communities present in Catalonia and offering a rigorous portrait of the religious situation in Catalonia.
