As Australia's NBN marks completion in mid-2020, NBN is releasing new Gigabit pricing (May 2020). This dataset tracks NBN retail pricing and compares with global gigabit pricing especially from Australia's Top Ten Trading Partners.

Analysis includes comparing gigabit pricing to ARPU (average monthly pricing for an ISP) to see if there is a trigger price, which accelerates takeoff (eg 10-25%) of Gigabit services.

For instance, in 2018, China gigabit prices are 10X ARPU.

Changelog:

v3; now with over 40 data lines. Latest CNNIC China gigabit report; Dec 22, indicating 611M subscribers enjoying access to gigabit.

v2; Now with 20 data points including US, South Korea (SK), Thailand, NZ, and first AU data points. Two info points on EU Gigabit 2025 strategy and South Korea usage.

v1; 10 data points

This dataset will track prices, users and ARPU by ISP/country.

Top 10 Trading Partners include:

CN - China

China reports 611M gigiabit users Jun 22) up from 64M (Dec 20) - CNNIC Report Dec 22, p.13 - @valuemgmt Tweet 16.12.22 (link below). NB: read previously as 61M and 6.4M. Update: while these numbers are what China reports, these appear to be typos. Likely 61.1M gigabit users rather than 611M users. See graph linked in Tweet below.
