UK_Seafood_Import_Data.xlsx

UK fisheries landings and seafood import data were collated from archived (Marine Management Organisation) UK Sea Fisheries Statistics annual reports for years 1890-2020 and from the 'Seafish' Trade and Tariff tool for years 2010-2020. Data were extracted biannually. All seafood weights are standardised to metric tonnes.

This excel data file includes: total domestic UK fisheries landings, total annual UK seafood imports, annual UK imports by country of export, total number of exporting countries for each year, and product specific UK imports by country of export. The weighted average distance seafood was imported from each year was also calculated using the distance between London and the capital city of the exporting countries, and the tonnes of seafood coming from each country.

• Imports vs domestic landings

This excel tab contains data on total annual UK seafood landings, total annual seafood imports by exporting country, and total annual imports.

Labelled columns:

Decade

Country: UK (domestic landings) and country of origin of imports

Total tonnes of fish imported: fish imports (tonnes) each year

Average: average tonnage of imports from each country over the decade.

Year

Total Imports (tonnes): total imports from all countries in a given year.

UK Domestic Landings (tonnes): total domestic landings in a given year.

• Number of exporting countries

This excel tab contains the total number of countries exporting seafood to the UK in a given year.

• Seafood Products

This excel tab contains data on the different seafood products exported to the UK, by country of export. It also includes a table of the top 25 exporters to the UK, with associated primary exported product each year.

This excel tab contains the top ten seafood product imports (by weight over the time-series) by country of export, with other species/products being grouped into 'misc. fish' and 'misc. shellfish' categories.

This excel tab includes tables of: total quantities (tonnes) of each seafood product imported into the UK each year; the total tonnages of each product exported to the UK over the time-series by the top 25 exporting countries; and the top exporters of each seafood product.

• Distances

This excel tab contains data on the distance from London to the capital city of each exporting country. There are also calculations for the weighted average distance seafood products were imported from each year.
