ABSTRACT In spite of the growth of the videogame localization industry in recent years, designing a video game translation and localization course for translation undergraduate programs is a complex task, particularly due to limited access to authentic materials produced by game developers and publishers who fear information leakage and piracy. This paper describes possibilities for game translation and localization teaching through the manipulation of linguistic assets of open source mobile games, while trying to shed some light on potential translation requirements related to them, and envisaging its incorporation into the translator education.
