Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by impaired insulin secretion or action, necessitating lifelong insulin therapy in many patients. Over the years, innovations in insulin delivery systems have transformed diabetes management, aiming to improve glycemic control, reduce treatment burden, and enhance quality of life. This poster explores recent advancements in insulin delivery methods beyond conventional subcutaneous injections.

Key innovations include inhaled insulin, which allows rapid absorption through pulmonary delivery, eliminating the need for needles; islet transplantation, offering potential β-cell replacement to restore endogenous insulin production; and closed-loop artificial pancreas systems, which integrate continuous glucose monitoring with insulin pumps and advanced algorithms for automated glucose regulation. Emerging approaches such as the smart insulin patch, equipped with glucose-responsive microneedles, provide a painless and physiologically adaptive mode of insulin release. In addition, weekly basal insulin analogs like Insulin Icodec and Basal Insulin Fc have demonstrated comparable efficacy to daily basal insulins while reducing injection frequency.

These innovations collectively represent a paradigm shift in diabetes care, offering safer, more convenient, and patient-centered approaches. As technology continues to advance, insulin delivery systems are expected to achieve greater personalization, automation, and integration into daily life, thereby reducing disease burden and improving long-term outcomes for people with diabetes.
