Student Performance Dataset from a Quasi-experimental Study on the Use of Virtual Labs in Biology Education
This dataset captures the academic performance of secondary school students enrolled in a Biology course, collected as part of a quasi-experimental study assessing the impact of virtual laboratory simulations on student learning outcomes. The data were gathered from two Rwandan secondary schools: one designated as the experimental, which received instruction using virtual labs, and the other as the control group, which followed traditional teaching methods.
All participating students were from combinations in which Biology is a major subject. The dataset includes performance scores measured after before and after the intervention, with the aim of evaluating whether the use of virtual labs led to statistically significant improvements in academic achievement compared to conventional instruction.
Variables in the dataset include student ID codes, school designation (control vs. experimental), pre-test and post-test scores.
